Capetown to Cairo to Capetown Caravan 2009

We plan to join the Capetown to Cairo to Capetown Caravan (CCCC) September 2009. This will recreate the 1959 Caravan conducted by Wally Byam with 36 Airstreams and 136 caravanners. They travelled seven months and approximately 14,000 miles on a grand adventure.

We have been planning for the 2009 CCCC for two years already. Many of the participants already have purchased their Airstream trailer for the trip and are fine-tuning their packing lists. We've met only a few of the participants and look forward to meeting more.

Our plan is to ship our 1979 Airstream Argosy Minuet (24T) to Capetown August 2009. We will fly the following month to Capetown and meet up with the other northbound caravanners and prepare our trailers for the journey. We expect to take four months, September to December, for the northbound journey to Cairo.

Another group of caravanners will have flown into Cairo to meet us. They will have a month to recondition the trailers and will spend February to May journeying south to Capetown.

We think this is an opportunity of a lifetime and are really excited about it. Many details are still in the works. There is a chance the trip cannot occur because of things out of our control. If it happens, if we can go, we will. We're hoping so.

The caravan intends to tour ten countries in Africa. They are Swaziland, Lesotho, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt.
